Fearless kids play ‘fireball football’ to ring in Islamic New Year

September 6th, 2019

Children rang in the new Islamic Year 1441 by playing a round of 'fireball football' at the Ar Rahmah Mosque in Rempoa near Jakarta. The purpose is to introduce this game to millennials. As everybody knows, the game was played using magic and 'mantra' to make it possible to touch the fire, but in reality, it doesn't have any relation with magic at all, everybody can play it," explains event organiser Suheri. The fireball practice is a tradition related to 'Pencak Silat,' a traditional Indonesian martial art.
