Thousands of French protesters hit out at higher fuel taxes and President Emmanuel Macron's economic policies in demonstrations across motorways on Saturday, sparking major logjams and several accidents, including a fatality at one road blockade. FRANCE 24 spoke with researcher Bruno Cautres about the demonstrations coordinated on social media. The grassroots organisation is unusual for France, where protests are generally coordinated by the traditional political parties and trade unions. It bodes ill, says Cautres, for the president and prime minister.
