Halle Bailey to Play Ariel in Disney's Live-Action 'Little Mermaid' The casting has been confirmed by the film's director, Rob Marshall. Rob Marshall, via statement 19-year-old Bailey also posted about the news on Twitter, calling it a "dream come true." Bailey is a series regular on the TV show 'Grownish' and is a part of the R&B group, 'Chloe x Halle." For the rest of the cast, Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play the film's main villain, Ursula. 'Room' star Jacob Tremblay is rumored to be lending his voice to Ariel's tropical fish friend, Flounder. Awkwafina is also in negotiations to voice the mermaid's seagull buddy, Scuttle.
